In this specific card you should use above option, to solve a bug with the mouse pointer when switch to a different video-mode:

tar zxvf xf42sav.tgz
cp savage_drv.o /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers

reboot xserver with ctrl+atl+backspace
